Amazon Alexa’s new capabilities to think on herself will remain with customers even after the dust of CES 2018 settles. Well… if you may not yet know who Alexa is, she is an AI built into Amazon devices like Fire TV and Echo Smart speaker. Amazon is not the only one with such technology, there is the Google Assistant just to mention one among many. However, Alexa is taking its assistant services to a whole new level as the makers have trained the system to invent its own thoughts other than relying on programming.
Basically, the assistant uses facts to offer a recommendation to customers but sooner than later the Amazon device will serve the clients based on what she thinks is best. This will come into play basically in the entertainment scenarios, next to your sit in the living room. Alexa will start to interact with customers to offer not only info or update on what is popular on TV but also what she feels would be more interesting for your watch based on many factors.
For one she may consider the day of the week to suggest Amazon products, i.e programs that suit your most likely mood. She will also know it is either daytime or night and the most interesting is that it will be able to move with your calendar such that when it is valentine’s day, she will direct you to channels with the most matching content. Well, maybe as time goes by, Alexa will be able to detect your mood, especially with the current invention of chips that can actually detect when an individual is depressed.
The Constantly Updates on Amazon Alexa
Ideally, reports say that the engineers of Alexa AI system have been updating it -with more data that would offer close to real life interaction experience with humans. This should not be a surprise for those who have been following the trend of machine learning from last year. For those of us who might have missed the headlines, everything tech now points to artificial intelligent since last year, (not only the Amazon projects). So brace yourselves to meet robotic doctors, AI in medicine, driverless cars and the likes even this year.
Back to Alexa. The makers of this speaker are of the idea that chatting to an assistant should not be some sort of a fix performance or fact-based questions and answers thing only. It needs to be an intriguing experience during the conversation -something that can create memories -explained Marc Whitten Amazon’s Fire TV VP. That suggests that Alex will no longer be the voice search we are used to, but rather someone that you’ll feel interested to chat with, the VP added at the CES. “Having your own say or opinion makes you amazing even as an Amazon assistant.”
Fire TV staff already has the feel of how consumers interact with a voice through the remote and talking to Alexa hands-free. It appears like dictating queries to a search engine on the remote but when hand-free, they become more open and interactive and they even begin to ask questions like “what’s the next comedy?” Whitten noted.
Things go a bit far and people increase their horizon of questions to something like what’s amazing for me tonight?, which Alex could notice your specific voice and answer you based on what you’ve often liked to watch while at home. Well, to makes things clearer, Alexa will be able to deal with everyone in the house based on their unique voice, so the Amazon product she recommends to the father would not be the same as to what she advises the kid to have.
Improvement in Machine Learning
Alexa and the likes are expected to be more smart with the new discovery of powerful chips like the memristors which claim to fasten machine learning and boost neural network’s efficiency. As in, this means that we will no longer need to spend months unending training a system since one or two classes will be enough.
Basically, according to Alexa’s developers, their longer-term goal is to use AI to make the assistant more unrestricted, accurate and effective while offering customer service. Now you know what, brace yourself as we await a leaving room where you’ll never be home alone, because you’ll be chatting with Alexa from Amazon ever after.
